Connecticut is a wonderful place to live. We moved here in 1972 and haven't regretted it once. In the western part near the N.Y. line is a unique area surrounding Candlewood Lake, the largest man-made lake east of the Mississippi. In this area you can drive to N.Y.C. in 90 minutes and drive to Boston in 2 1/2 hours. We have dairy farms scattered around us and see deer almost every day in our yard in addition to ducks, Canadian geese, wild turkeys, raccoons, bats owls and more. It is a rural area but 15 minutes to a mall 30, minutes to the Long Island Sound. Any given day you can go see a Broadway play, eat at any number of world famous restaurants. 90 minutes later we pass horse farms and dairy farms on your way to a town that has 11,000 people, where you don't have to lock your car or the front door. Autumn in Ct. is a wonderland of majestic colors on the trees, pick your own apples and pumpkins in a chill that smells of fireplaces being lit all over town. In Winter there is usually snow on the ground for Santa and his sleigh. The lake freezes just after New Years Day, so ice fishing and skating abound. Spring brings the crocus plant peeking through the snow yard. A clean up is done towards the end of April when the ground dries out. Near the middle of May it's time to get the gardens going for the flowers, vegetables and tomatoes. Memorial Day brings the melting of the lake for swimming although the water isn't warm enough for me until around Father's Day and the beginning of Summer. With it's share of 90 degree and above days, August is the time that the tomatoes come to fruition. School starts and we begin another cycle of 4 different seasons. Connecticut, what is it like? It's like a little piece of paradise.
