You could leave it as an improper fraction. Alternatively, you could divide the numerator by the denominator (d) to find the number of times it goes into it (w) and the remainder (r). Then the equivalent mixed ratio is w r/d.

What fraction is larger?

When the fractions are converted to equivalent fractions with the same denominator the one with the larger numerator is the larger fraction.

How can you tell which fractions is greater if both fractions have the same numerator?

Then the fraction with the smaller denominator is larger.

Can 11 and 1 eighth be written as a proper fraction?

A fraction is made up of two parts: a numerator (top number) and a denominator (bottom number). There are 3 types of fractions: Proper, Improper, Mixed. A proper fraction is one where the numerator is smaller than the denominator. An improper fraction is one where the numerator is larger or equal to the denominator. A mixed fraction is one with a whole number and a proper fraction together. 11 1/8 is a mixed fraction, and can be written as the improper fraction 89/8. It is impossible to write it as a proper fraction because the numerator is larger than the denominator. Also, all mixed fractions are improper fractions and no improper fractions can be written as proper fractions.

How can you decide which of two fractions is bigger?

Find the lowest common denominator. Once their denominators are the same, the one with the larger numerator is the largest.

When multiplying a fraction by a fraction why do you get a larger fraction?

I think this would happen if both fractions are positive, one or both of them is improper (numerator and denominator are equal or numberator is larger than denominator), and at least one of them has a value greater than one.

What are the types of fractions?

The two types of fractions are proper fractions, in which the numerator is smaller than the denominator, and improper fractions, in which the numerator is equal to or larger than the denominator.

What do you call fractions when the numerator is larger than the denominator?

improper fractions

How can you tell which fractions is greater if both fractions have the same numerator?

Then the fraction with the smaller denominator is larger.

If 2 fractions have the same numerator but different denominator how can you tell which is greater?

In that case, and assuming both fractions are positive, the one with the larger denominator is the smaller fraction, because you are dividing by a larger number.

How is a proper fraction and an improper fraction related?

The numerator and denominator in both types of fractions are integers. In a proper fraction the numerator is smaller than the denominator while in an improper fraction the numerator is larger.

How do you compare fractions with same denominator but different numerators?

If the denominators are the same, the one with the greater numerator is greater.

When two fractions have the same denominator. How can you tell which fraction is larger?

By its numerator as for example 3/4 is larger than 1/4

Is 2over3 larger or 5over7?

The way to answer this kind of question is to change each of your fractions in to fractions with a common denominator. 2/3 =14/21 (I multipled both the numerator and denominator by 7.) 5/7= 15/21. (I multiplied both the numerator and the denominator by 3.) 5/7 is larger than 2/3

Is the fraction with the greater than or less than the fraction with the lesser denominator?

To compare two fractions, you convert them to equivalent fractions with the same denominator. Then you can compare their numerators (top parts). In that case, the fraction with the larger numerator is larger.

How do you know which fractions are larger than others with the same denominator?

which ever one has a bigger numerator you stupid are you in first grade
