If the quadratic function is written as ax2 + bx + c then

if a > 0 the function is cup shaped and if a < 0 it is cap shaped.

(if a = 0 it is not a quadratic)

if b2 > 4ac then the equation crosses the x-axis twice.

if b2 = 4ac then the equation touches the x-axis (is a tangent to it).

if b2 < 4ac then the equation does not cross the x-axis.

What are the steps for finding a function rule if you are given the graph of a function?

In general, it is impossible. You could try putting together a data set using as many of the points as possible from the graph. Then try various regressions. You may have to perform transformations on the data if the function rule is not straightforward. This could require some very high level statistical techniques. You could be lucky and the graph is a straight line!

How putting a equation into Quadratic equation?

You just have to follow the rule of quadratic functions. Example y = mx+b is the rule for linear functions. ax^2+bx+c is the rule of quadratic equation.

What a function rule?

As you get to harder and higher analysis of functions, it's not required. A function rule, apparently, is an equation that represents a function. A function, properly defined, is its graph. A graph is a subset of a plane, where it's the set of all points (a, b), and for every value a, f(a) = b is the definition of a function. So you can get a plane, squible some lines that's not over lapping, you get a function. How the HELL do you get an equation for that? Hence, the function is kinda useless? No! Function equations can help us making analysis of those that does have one. In terms of derivatives, limits etc.

Would it be easier to find the rule for a function table with 3 pairs of numbers or 4 pairs of numbers?

If it's a linear function, 3 should do, but 4 will give an extra check on you work. If the function is quadratic exponential, etc. then at least 4 pairs should be used.

Find the rule for each function table?

Well, look for a continuing pattern. Once you find one that makes sense for each value, write it into an equation....look at example below x- 2,4,6,8 y- 4,16,36,64 the rule for this function is y=x squared.

How do you you rewrite a rule as a function?

You need to give an example of the rule and the function you want.
