that depends on what that expression is equal to.

If you are asking what x equals if "-x-2 = 0" for example, then the solution would be:

-x-2 = 0

-x = 2 add 2 to both sides

x = -2 multiply both sides by negative 1 - solved

If, however, -x-2 does NOT equal zero, then this solution is incorrect.

-x - 2 equal to zero, because you found that the value of x is a negative number, x = -2, and the opposite of x is a positive number, -x = -(-2) = 2. Thus -x - 2 = -(-2) - 2 = 2 - 2 = 0

If this is not a maths question, then SE made it X-2 instead of XI because X-2 was a continuation of X, instead a new universe like they usually have when they change the Roman numeral.
