Then it stars going down until it reaches zero again at the Prime Meridian. These are the longitudes. Latitudes start with zero at the equator. Latitudes are made up of rings moving up the earth until 90 degrees at the North Pole. The same going south to the South Pole. Between degrees, there are minutes and seconds, so locations on earth can be pin pointed very acurately.
