Why isn't all developmental psychology research longitudinal?
Sometimes a longitudinal study is impractical; sometimes it is not necessary; and sometimes a cross-sectional study will provide better data. Some time spans for longitudinal research would make the project unmanageable. To study the development of motor skills from age 6 months to age one year is a reasonable project.
