The way to memorize the order of operation is by remembering this sentence: Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally...P for parentheses..E for exponents M for Multiplication..D for Division..A for Addition..And S for Subtraction. When you get a math problem like this: 15 + (10 x 4) you do what's in parentheses first. So 10 x 4 is 40. Then you would go 40 + 15 and the answer is 50.
