the pathagoream theorem is the key to finding a missing length of a side of a right triangle. it is a2+b2=c2. c always stands for the hypotenuse, or the side opposite of the right angle. a and b stand for the legs, or the sides that come together to make the right angle.

now for an example

say you have a triangle without a length for the hypotenuse. you take the formula, a2+b2=c2 and replace a and bwith the length of the legs, say 4in. and 8in. the formula is now either 42+82=c2, or 82+42=c2. it doesnt matter. now you square the legs and the formula becomes 16+64=c2. add them together and you get 80=c2. now you square root it so that you have c and not c2. and the square root of 80 is 8.94427190999916. sorry about the big decimal. we round it up at my school to the nearest tenth so now your answer would be 9.0=c.

be absolutely sure to put 9.0 instead of 9 to show youre rounding to the tenth

i hope i helped even though it was really long

What is the pathagorean theorem?

it uses the formula: a^(2)+b^(2)=c^(2)

How do you measure the angles of a right triangle?

If you know the side lengths, then you can use sin(Θ) = (Opposite)/(Hypotenuse), so Θ = Sin-1(Opposite/Hypotenuse), for example. You could get close to the number of degrees in an angle with a protractor.

Who came up with pathagorean theorem?

The Pythagorean theorem is attributed to the ancient Greek mathematician Pythagoras, who lived around 570-495 BC. However, there is evidence to suggest that the theorem was known to the Babylonians even earlier.

What uses the pathagorean theorem in real life?

You work as a house painter. When you set up your ladder, you like to set the base 5-ft from the wall, for stability. How high on the wall can you reach with a 12-ft ladder ? With a 15-ft ladder ? With a 30-ft ladder ? ============================================================== The question is not: Can the Pythagorean Theorem help you in real life ? The question is: Is your life real enough yet that you can use the Pythagorean Theorem to make it easier ?
