The square root of (-5)2 is 5. (-5 is also a square root, but "the" square root refers to the positive root in this case.)

The square root of -52 is the square root of -25, or 5i. "i" is the imaginary unit. Read about "imaginary numbers" or "complex numbers" for more information.

This would create confusions. Would that mean that the square of any negative number is negative?
