One should not confuse this issue. In imperial units, this volume would be referred to as 'acre-feet' for the storage acpacity of a reservoir for example.

In metric, one could say hectares-metres, but since one is talking about volume, one should just refer to cubic metres, or cubic kilometres etc as necessary.
