1 Let the sides be 5x and 12x

2 Using Pythagoras' theorem: (5x)2+(12x)2 = 22.752

3 So: 25x2+144x2 = 517.5625 => 169x2 = 517.5625

4 Divide both sides by 169 and then square root both sides

5 Therefore: x = 1.75 so sides are 5*1.75 = 8.75 cm and 12*1.75 = 21 cm

6 Area = 0.5*8.75*21 = 91.875 square cm

What is the ratios function of sin?

The sine of an angle in a right triangle is the ratio of the length of the side opposite the angle to the length of the hypotenuse. In terms of ratios, the sine of an angle is defined, in a right angled triangle, as the ratio of lengths of the opposite side to the hypotenuse.

Is it true the sine ratio relates the length of the leg the angle that is in question to the length of the hypotenuse?

Yes... opposite an angle of a right triangle to the length of the triangle's hypotenuse.

What does sin x mean?

It means the ratio of the opposite angle to the hypotenuse of a triangle for angle "x". This is for a right triangle.

What ratio do you use to find the sine of an angle in a right triangle?

Sine ratio = opposite/hypotenuse

Is this statement true or false The sine of an angle in a right triangle is the ratio of the length of the side adjacent to that angle to the length of the hypotenuse.?

False because sine ratio = opposite/hypotenuse

How is cosine defined?

In a right triangle, the cosine of an angle is defined as the ratio of the adjacent side of that angle to the hypotenuse.

In trig what is the opposite side over the hypotenuse?

It is the 'sine' ratio for a right angle triangle
