From "The Guinness World Records" (of June 2011)

The fastest dive that has been recorded was during one series of German experiments, when a peregrine falcon reached a velocity of 270 km/h (168 mph) at a 30° angle of stoop, rising to a maximum of 350 km/h (217 mph) at an angle of 45°.

Unofficially they have been recorded at significantly higher speeds.

They fly to a speed of 126 miles per hour but have been recorded at 275mph.

Answer 2.

There has been much in the literature about the speed of the peregrine falcon, fastest of birds.

Claims of speeds in a dive over 200 mph are not documented, but the fastest speed actually recorded was a male bird in Maine, which dived at 187.7 mph.

I read up to 200mph. Very surprised, didn't know there was a living animal capable of speeds that fast.
