The biggest living shark is a whale shark, not the famous great white shark.

The biggest shark that has ever existed in the shark family is the Megalodon, which was believed to be extinct 170 million years ago, but one of its teeth that were found was only 10,000 years old, which means they may still survive, but in the depths of the ocean. Quite a number of animals that were thought to be extinct have been found alive. One example in the shark family is the frilled shark, which dated back to the late cretaceous (c.95 Ma) period, and possibly to the late Jurassic (c. 150 Ma) period. Also, there were sightings of a Megalodon in deep parts of the ocean.
The whale shark (Rhincodon typus) is the largest currently observed shark in the world. The whale shark can grow as long as 41 feet (12.5 m) and weigh as much as 15 tons. They are not predators, but slow-moving "filter feeders" similar to the basking shark, and subsist on plankton and krill. The whale shark can be found in tropical and warm water oceans, and individual sharks have been known to live as long as 70 years.

In 2007, there were speculative reports that a larger shark, the prehistoric megalodon, might still have living specimens. But the accounts were never substantiated. The megalodon is found in fossil records, with infants being 65 feet (20 m) in length and adults 165 feet (50 m) or more.

(see related question)
The biggest shark in the ocean today is the Whale shark(measuring over 40 feet in length) and the smallest is the dwarf lantern shark.

The largest predatorial shark today is the Great White shark, made popular from the Jaws movie. Great White Sharks can exceed 20 feet in length and 5,000 lbs in weight.

The largest shark on record is the extinct species known as the Megalodon, which was found to reach over 52 feet.
The largest shark living is the whale shark (40 ft). However, the megalodon was the largest extinct shark (up to 65 ft).
the name of the biggest shark is the Whale Shark. It isn't very aggressive and it has white spots on it's back. It is a blue shark. The next largest shark is the great white shark it is about 14 feet long and very aggressive.

The world's largest shark is the whale shark.

The whale shark can reach a length of 41 feet, or 12.5 m, and a mass of 15 tons, or 13.6 tonnes. Whale sharks live in tropical and warm-temperate oceans around the world.

the megalodon

Megalodon is history's biggest shark but has been extinct for millions of years. The biggest shark now alive is the whale shark. Whale sharks are a bit like cows of the ocean. They are placid and don't hunt like most other sharks. They live on tiny marine organisms much like baleen whales do.

The C. Megalodon was not extinct MILLIONS of years ago.

The more recent fossil ever found from a Meg is a tooth dated approximately 1.5 million years old. A blink of an eye, in geologic terms.

And, obviousely, there is no guaranty this tooth fossil belonged to the very last Megalodon alive!

Several possible causes for its decline, and eventualdisappearance, have been proposed, but the marine Paleontology scientific community has not yet reached a consensus.
