Mathematics

A base is the amount of characters (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0,A,B,C etc.) there are in a counting system.

We generally use base 10. It uses the characters 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 0.

Examples of other bases:

Base 2-Binary

Base 1-Unary

Base 3-Trinary

Base 8-Octal

Base 10-Decimal

Base 13-Tridecimal

Base 16-Hexadecimal

These all use characters.

They start with 0, then 1, then 2 ... 9, then A (10), B(11), C(12).

And so on

Chemistry

A base is a chemical compound containing the anion OH- and accepting hydrogen ions.
