You can draw a number line and find the distance between two numbers. -2, -1, 0, 1.

So, the distance between 1 and –3 is 4.

Otherwise, we can find the difference between 1 and –3. Then the modulus value of the result would give you the distance between 1 and –3.

|1 – (-3) | = |1 + 3| = |4| = 4

So, the distance between 1 and –3 is 4.
