The rail gun can fire a bullet at mach 10; this makes it the gun with the fastest muzzle velocity.

However the fastest cyclic rates belongs to FireStorm, a weapon system developed by Australian weapons manufacturer Metal Storm Ltd. Firestorm can be adapted for any standard caliber rounds currently used, from 5.56mm NATO assault weapons to 40mm grenade launchers, and potentially larger howitzer platforms.

The small arms version of firestorm is designed with multiple barrels, stacked in rectangular blocks for 30 or more barrels that are electronically fired. It can maintain a cyclic rate of 1 million rounds a minute for as long as ammunition packs can be loaded. The only reduction in cyclic rate is currently determined by the size of round. The larger the round, the slower the rate.

There is some disagreement about the highest muzzle velocity factory loaded rifle cartridge. The .204 Ruger claims a velocity of 4225 feet per second, However, there is a factory load for the .220 Swift that claims 4665 feet per second. Remington also loads a 30-06 Accelerator- a 55 grain saboted bullet, with a claimed MV above 4000 fps. At the extreme edge of high velocity, different barrel lengths will begin to play a major role in speed. Anything above 4000 fps is DARNED fast!

Is 303 inch cartridge GB 53 7 collectible?

The .303 cartridge is the standard caliber for the English made Enfields. the other GB 53 7 stands for where and when it was made. These are military designations. Commercial ammuntion would have the .303 caliber stamped on the bottom of the casing along with either the name or initials of the company manufacturing the bullet. The caliber was used by the English for many years including World War II. Most of the NATO nations now use the American .223 caliber in the M14 - M15 - M16. The cartridge can be a collectible however it's value is low in the cartridge collections of today. It is a nice military collectible. Captain Bob clever8@beyondbb.com

How do you calculate caliber?

"caliber" as used in the firearms world can either mean just the bullet diameter, or the inside measure of bore diameter, expressed as a decimal fraction of an inch. And "caliber" can also mean the complete name of a specific cartridge, which might be quite different from some other one using the same caliber bullets. Examples: The caliber ".357 magnum" uses .357" (or 357/1000 inch) bullets. The caliber ".308 Winchester" uses .308" bullets. But the caliber ".30-06 Springfield" ALSO uses those same .308 bullets. But it's a different "caliber" because it's not the same cartridge. The .30-06 has a much longer case that holds more gunpowder.
