Ahh what a story it was, you see back in the year 70, everyone thought that that was going to be the last year ever, then the morning following new years eve, no-one knew what to call the new year. That's when a young idealist named Mervin smeckler invented the number 71. he is also credited with the number 78 and 83 but some believe he stole the number 83 from another mathamatician. 71 has been used for many things since, like 71 cherios in a bowl of cereal was very popular in the early 1990's. 71 was also the feature number on seasame street on nov 12th 1994, this really vaulted 71's celebrity status among the numbers, even though The Count colapsed from exhaustion after the long count to 71. 71 fell on hard times when other numbers achieved even higher status, such as the popular 99 luftballoons and when the smash movie 300 set the bar very high.
