Objects are not usually measured in terms of length since it is an ambiguous dimension. It usually means the longest dimension but is normally associated with lines rather than solid objects.

Objects are correctly measured in terms of width, depth and height. With the object oriented right-side-up with the front face towards you, the depth is the distance from the front face to the back face, the height is the distance from the bottom face to the top face and the width is the distance from the left face to the right face. Where the object has an irregular shape, the width, depth and height will reflect the smallest possible cuboid that will accommodate the object.
