Mean refers to average. To get an average you add up all the numbers in your set. Here, your set is 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 ( I have arranged them in numerical order). You also need to know the number of numbers in your set. Here, you have five numbers in your set.

I will call the number of numbers in the set n, and thus n = 5 here.

Once you have the sum of all the numbers, divide by n.

Here, the sum is 40 (6 + 7 + 8 + 9 + 10). Now divide by n.

40/5 = 8.

Thus the average, or MEAN is 8.

What is the median of 4 4 5 5 6 6 7 7 8 8 8 9 10 11?

The median of a set of numbers is the middle one (if there are an odd number of them) or the mean average of the middle two (if there are an even number of them). The dataset {4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 8, 9, 10, 11} has 14 elements, so the median is the mean average of the 7th and 8th numbers. The 7th and 8th numbers are 7 and 7, thus the median is (7 + 7) / 2 = 7.
