Are you wanting to know how to divide fractions? Here is an example from www.ehow.com: 1. Let's say we want to divide 1/5 by 3/8. Our first step is to flip the fraction we're dividing by.

In my example, we're dividing by 3/8, so this is the one we'll flip. Now by flip, I mean turn it upside-down. Right now, the 3 is on the top and the 8 is on the bottom.

Flipping it upside-down would make the 8 on top and the 3 on the bottom. So 3/8 becomes 8/3. Step2 Our second step is to change the division to multiplication. So instead of dividing 1/5 by 3/8, we turn it into 1/5 x 8/3.

TIP: It's very important that you flipped the correct fraction. Flipping the wrong one will give you a wrong answer. So always make sure you flip the fraction you're dividing by!

Step3 To multiply 1/5 x 8/3, we'd multiply the two numerators together and then multiply the two deonominators together.

Multiplying the two numerators together would give us 1x8 or 8. And multiplying the two deonominators together would give us 5x3 or 15.

So our answer would 8/15. In other words 1/5 divided by 3/8 is 8/15.

TIP: If you need to reduce your answer to lowest terms, you can do that now. Meaning antything that can go smaller. For instance 5/10=1/2 because 5 goes into 5 and 10.

To compare fractions is to determine which is larger. You can do this by changing both to the same denominator, or converting them to decimals.

Is the fraction with the greater than or less than the fraction with the lesser denominator?

To compare two fractions, you convert them to equivalent fractions with the same denominator. Then you can compare their numerators (top parts). In that case, the fraction with the larger numerator is larger.
