There are no metric prefixes 1 through 10. The question doesn't make sense. In the metric system, things are measured in units. For example, distance is measured in metres. The prefixes go in the thousands or thousandths. The MKS (original system) defines 16 prefixes which are yotta, zetta, exa, tera, giga, mega, kilo, (unit has no prefix), milli, micro, nano, pico, femto, atto, zepto and yocto, each 1000 times smaller than the one before it except kilo to milli which is one million times smaller because the base unit has NO prefix.

The SI system also defines a few more like centi, deci, hecta etc. but these just make things confusing. For distances up to 1 metre, millimetres is used such as 123.4 mm. From 1 metre to 1 kilometre just the unit with no prefix is used eg 56.7m. For 1000m and above a kilometre is used eg. 8.9 km and so forth and so forth. Kilobytes, Megabytes, Gigabytes and Terabytes come from the same plce, each 1000 times bigger than the one before it.

The proper name is not prefix , but multiple and submultiple.

Have a look at the website for BIPM, (Bureau International Poids et Measure) which is the international body responsible for setting measurements. Your favourite search engine will get it for you.

Units named after people are usually capitalized, e.g. Hertz Hz, Pascal Pa, Volts V, Amperes A.

The SI prefix for a tenth is centi-; centimetre, centilitre, centigram .

This is almost never used, centimetres are sometimes used to describe length, but in most cases divisions of thousands are used, milli-, micro, nano, kilo, mega.

How do the prefixes in the metric system relate to the base unit?

Every prefix in the metric system denotes a power of 10.

What is the metric system based on mathematically?

The metric system, in mathematical terms, is a base 10 system. This means that the prefixes of the units change the value of the units by factors of 10. For example: 1 centimeter = 10 millimeters.

The metric system is based on what powers of what number?

The metric prefixes are powers of 10; most commonly, powers of 1000 (103) are used, that is, the power of 10 is a multiple of 3. For example, 103 = kilo, 106 = mega, 10-3 = milli, etc.

Is the metric system based upon multiple of 100?

Not quite. Larger or smaller units are created by adding prefixes for different powers of 10 - not only 100.

What are the metric prefixes for billionth?

The prefix for 10-9 is nano-.

Why do people consider the metric system easier to use than US system?

The metric system uses conversion factors of 10 for all units. Instead of remembering all the different conversions between each unit (4quarts=1gallon, 5280feet=1mile, ect), you only have to memorize a couple of prefixes. The (common) metric prefixes are Milli=1000th Centi=100th Deci=10th Deka=x10 Hecto=x100 Kilo=x1000

Does 1 kiloliter equal 4 milliliters?

One Kilo Liter is 1000 times one liter. follwoing are some prefixes used in the metric system. 10^3 kilo 10^0 no prefixes, only unit 10^-1 deci 10^-2 centi 10^-3 milli

A system of measurment based on the number 10?

What is the deci system?

And by "deci system", do you mean: the prefixes added to units of measurement to change the value of something (metric system)? the Decimal System? which would be a question in the math section the Dewey Decimal System? which would go under a library section used to organize books If it's the first one: The metric system is a system based on the number 10. There are numerous prefixes that are adjoined to units of measurement to increase or decrease the base unit by 10 times the preceding/succeeding value. The most basic prefixes used in high school science classes are Kilo- x1000 the base unit Hecto- x100 " " Deco- x10 Deci- x1/10 Centi- x1/100 Milli- x1/1000
