The unit of measurement for speed is a fixed amount distance divided by a fixed amount of time.

i.e.: Miles/Hour, Kilometers/Second, Meters/Hour, inches/day

Currently in the US, milers/hour or "mph" is a standard for motor vehicles. It is kilometers/hour, or "kph" other countries.

There might be some confusion with the above and the word "lightyears." 1 lightyear designates a distance, the distance light travels in 1 year through a vacuum. Some may confuse this as speed, when it is actually a measurement of distance.
