Look on the back of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter next to the base of the torch. It may be blank or there may be a D or S. (The letters 'JS' next to Roosevelt's neck are the designer's monogram and not a mint mark.)

Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 06/2011:

No mint mark (Philadelphia):

Very worn condition - $3.68

Moderately worn - $3.91

Slightly worn - $4.03

Almost no wear - $6.50

Uncirculated - $11.50 to $1340.00 depending on quality

"D" mint mark (Denver):

Very worn - $3.68

Moderately worn - $3.91

Slightly worn - $4.03

Almost no wear - $4.50

Uncirculated - $5.18 to $1560.00

"S" mint mark (San Francisco):

Very worn - $3.68

Moderately worn - $4.31

Slightly worn - $4.60

Almost no wear - $8.10

Uncirculated - $16.10 to $1380.00

DISCLAIMER: The retail values quoted are the best available as of the date shown, but may vary due to market fluctuations. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a coin will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.
