use the displacement method

1.take a bowl that the apple could fit in, then fill up the bowl with water until it overflows.

2.put the apple in slowly and make sure you catch all the water in a measuring cup.

3. however much water comes out is the volume of the apple

If we model it as a sphere, the volume can be calculated with the equation 4/3pi.r3 where pi is the number 3.1415 etc. and r is the radius of the sphere. estimating the average diameter for an apple as 8cm gives a radius of 4cm so the estimate for the volume would be: 268cm3

You can either:* Dump the apple in a liquid, and measure how much the liquid in the container rises, or

* Use integration to calculate the volume. This means that (at least mathematically) you divide the apple into lots of small pieces, each of them (for example) in the shape of a rectangular block, and then add everything up.
