Treat the 3D sphere as a 2D circle. The radius for the sphere is the same radius as for the circle. No matter where on the sphere you place a mark, the distance (radius) from the mark to the centre of the sphere will always be the same as the circle.

I am not an authority on maker's marks, but I saw a pendant on ebay that was advertised as Simon Lery's work. It had a capital S in a circle and a capital L in a separate circle.

I don't know what this means, but I bought a silver filligree heart that has this stamp on it, which means it should be solid sterling, but when I started polishing it, I noticed that the copper was coming up from underneath the silver as it was polished off. There is a maker's mark which is capital letters SU with a circle around it. I am really pissed off that it's only plated, but I'm glad I didn't pay much for it. Please let me know if there is a maker's mark on yours and what it is. There must be a way of going after these people who are counterfiting and are stupid enough to put their maker's mark on it.
