To work out what number is a sixth more, you first have to work out what a sixth of the number is. You can do this by dividing it by 6:
1.2/6=0.2
The next step is to add this to the original number:
1.2+0.2=1.4
Thus a sixth more than 1.2 is 1.4
Five sixths is more. 2/3 = 8/12 while 5/6 = 10/12
2/6 x 12 = 4 Keep in mind that two sixths is the same as one third.
Expressed as a mixed number in its simplest form, 1/2 + 2/6 + 12 = 12 5/6 or twelve and five sixths.
12 more than a number means: __+12 (a number plus 12). You can express this as an algebraic expression: n+12 or 12+n(n representing a number.)
7/6 = 14/12 13/12 = 13/12
4/12
Two thirds equals four sixths. As well as any multiple of four sixths. Such as 8/12 ths. Simply multiple the numerator and denominator by the same number and you get a correct answer. Same thing with dividing the numerator and denominator by the same number.
A number n is 5 more than 12
