What is the best number?

This is not a question with a definite answer, as the "quality" of a number is a matter of opinion and not fact. Many numbers do have unique characteristics that make them particularly interesting and useful, and depending on what you're doing, any of them might be the "best" one at any given time. A few examples include:

Zero. Zero is very special because it doesn't actually represent a quantity, but a lack thereof. This is the only number that, no matter what you multiply it by, will always be the same value.

e. The number e (aproximately 2.718281828) is special in calculus. It is very unique in the fact that the rate of change with respect to x of the function ex is equal to itself, ex.

These are just a few simple examples of numbers that might be the best one for any given task. What number is "best" at any moment depends entirely on the needs of that moment.
