The easiest way to do these simple percent problems is to remember this.

is = %

of 100

1. Determine the "is", "of", and "%"

is = 1

of = 36

% = ?

2. Substitute into the simple formula. (use a variable such as x in place of question mark)

1 = x

36 100

3. Cross multiply. (you can do this when you have a fraction equal to another fraction.

36x = 1*100

36x = 100

x = 100

36

4. Solve for x. (since this question is asking for a percent, make sure you put a percent sign after the number...you may also want to round depending on the directions)

x = 2.777777777777... %
