The Soviet Union. The Soviets and Nazi's were both radical and awful countries. But the Soviets weren't the ones trying to take over the world and since Germany in 1941 invaded the Soviet Union they joined the allies. After World War II and especially after the United States dropped of the Nuclear Weapons in Japan, the Soeviet Union was very interested in creating their own Nuclear Weapons- which they did. Since the Soviets and the US had Nuclear Weapons and their political views were ostile towards eachother, post WWII Europe was a tense place which eventually the Battleground of the suprisingly peaceful Cold War which was quite because of the tension of possible Nuclear War doom. Sorry for the rant. So the allies basically faced possible Nuclear War a few years after World War II. But not only was it the Soviet Union they were facing. The United States and the allies were given the task of rebuilding the post war Europe and Japan. This was a large task which was not easy. There was also the threat of the spread of Communism, which President Eisenhower felt was a dooming threat which thrust the US and allies into Cold War conflicts. Hope this helped.
After the war European countries were in bad political and economic shape
For instance, a large number of dwellings were destroyed during the fightings. Food and coal were rantioned. The general economy was in a recession. It was difficult to find commodities.

Once Germany was split up into ally territories, there was the fear that one country would try to gain more land. Also, the USSR had a communist government and the relationship between the USSR and the USA about economy and its military caused the Cold War.
The US joined the war on the side of the Allies on April 6, 1917.
World war 1 ended because the Germans surrended to the Allies
The U.S. did not fight a two front war in WW1. It fought only on the western front.
