You read it in the order of the dates, or the sequential order of how events took place.
A poisson process is a non-deterministic process where events occur continuously and independently of each other. An example of a poisson process is the radioactive decay of radionuclides. A poisson distribution is a discrete probability distribution that represents the probability of events (having a poisson process) occurring in a certain period of time.
A historian would use a timeline to establish the order events happened.
The time between two events is the interval between them.
A time line is a number line of years
Increases in campaign finance regulation followed by a loosening of restrictions
A time line is a way of representing historical events
A time line can be used on grapgh paper to display the order of events on a horizontal plane, that uses a "line" with dates and events that lead to a final outcome. As an example, a time line can be used to display the time & events that the Roman empire began and ended.
Does not always reflect the true sequence of events in time
time lines are basically a sequence of events in order.
A time line not only shows the chronological order in which a set of events occurred, but also, if done to scale, gives a visualization of the relative time between events.

I think that is a way of showing that a section of the time line with no related events has been removed from that place on the line. A more common way of showing that is with a pair of slashes spanning a break in the line (------//------).
As you research historical figures, choose major events to use as stepping stones for creating the time line. For instance: birth date, when the historical figure became famous, when they accomplished their goal, when they died are starters. reference events with other know events
