A fraction that compares 2 equivalent measurements is often referred to as a conversion factor. It represents the relationship between two different units of measurement for the same quantity. For example, the fraction 1 mile/5280 feet can be used to convert between miles and feet, as there are 5280 feet in one mile.
Scaling factor. EX: If 1 inch on a house plan = 10 ft of real house; then the scaling factor is n = 1 in/10 ft. So if the house plan depicts a wall that's 8 inches, the equivalent house wall is 8/n = 8/(1/10) = 80 ft. QED.
One inch is equivalent to 0.039370 millimetres. In order to convert the measurements one should divide the amount of millimetres by 0.039370 to find the length in inches.
You can work it out longhand or use an online conversion tool - (see the related link below).
Length and volume are not equivalent measurements. Length is a two dimensional measurement while volume is a three dimensional measurement.
Multiply or divide by a power of 10.
