Connect it to a Ground wire.

For personal safety reasons and to conform to your local Wiring Code or Regulations, if a fan unit has a Ground connection terminal you must connect it to a Ground wire.

If there is no Ground wire at the mounting point for the fan then you must install a cable with a Ground wire.

This question is complicated by the fact that ceiling fans often have 2 separate circuits, one for the light fixture that is usually part of the fan, and one for the fan motor. Also, most fans have pull-chain assemblies to operate both the lights and the fan.

I have seen some non-standard wire colors and strange wiring schemes employed on the fans themselves, so if you don't have a manual that explains how to wire your specific fan, I suggest buying a new one that includes this information.

From your ceiling electrical box, the Black wire should be hot. Sometimes there may be an additional Black or Red wire used to provide switched hot power to the fan and light individually, depending on your wall switch configuration.

These types of wiring scenarios can be among the most complicated in house wiring. This means that because of the many wiring possibilities, knowing your specific scenario is difficult without seeing it. So if you are at all unsure about it, seek the help of an experienced electrician. It just isn't worth the risk of attempting it yourself, if you don't know.

If you have three wires coming into the box, black, white and bare, put it with the bare one. If you only have 2 wires, black and white or can't tell, you can attach it to the metal box that may be grounded or simply tuck it back and don't worry about it. It is there to ground the fixture but if you do not have a ground wire, the bare one, there is nothing you can do about it and it will not hurt anything.

When you see a three wire in a fan junction box it was probably wired for switch so that the fan and light, if there was one, could be switched independently. Just cap the wire off with a wire nut and push it into the back of the box. Connect the fan to the black and white wire for the fan to operate.

How do you hook up new black white and green wires to 2 old white wires and 2 old black wires?

More information is needed as to what device you are connecting to what power supply. The only two identifiable wires are the white and green. In North America the white colour is used for the circuit's neutral and the green is used for grounding of devices.

Does the electrical wall outlet half to be same hook up as hook up at box?

Yes, black is hot, white is neutral, and copper is ground.

How do you hook up outside light fixture that has black white green to house wiring with only black and white?

If your house wiring is encased in armoured (metal) sheathing back to the panel, then you can secure the green ground to the ground screw in the box. Make sure the armoured cable connector is tight on the box. This should ground the light back to the panel. If you are on "knob & tube" I would suggest thinking about re-wiring the house.

Need hunter fan remote directions?

Can you put amale 4 prong plug on the end of a 3 wire stove top?

Yes. There will be no wire connected to the neutral terminal in the plug. The neutral terminal should have a silver screw. If not, the neutral will be the straight prong right on top and a little between the other two straight prongs.- - - - -No you can't. Cooktops are, by code, hardwired in. No plug allowed! You should have a black, either a white or red, plus either a green or bare wire. Black to black, If the junction box has four wires--black, red, white and bare--cap the white because you won't need it (cooktops are wired like water heaters--two hots, no neutral) hook the green or bare to the bare on the AC service, black to black and white or red to red.See Discuss Question button below.

Where do you hook up Black white green red for home stereo receiver hook up?

The black and white cables, or possibly black and red, are analog audio. Green is one of the three component video wires, bundled together as red green and blue. Without knowing what components you have we have no idea where you should connect these, or if it is even possible with the gear you have.

I am changing a 3-prong to a 4-prong on a Speed Queen dryer. There is no indication as to color-coding for the wiring. Also there are 2 green screws instead of one. How do I decide which wires to hook?

The forth wire is to ground the body of the dryer. The cord should have red, black, white, and green wires. Red and black are hot, the white is neutral, and green is ground. The red, white, black in that order or reversed, black white, red, should go in a row where they connect to the dryer with the green one probably above it. If the center neutral lug has a bond to the chassis remove it. You have a dedicated wire to replace it now.

How do you attach a banana to the ceiling?

Im adding a new ceiling fan in my living room i pulled the old fixture down i noticed 2 sets of 3 wire BWR and 1 set 2 wire BW BW going to the wall switch how should you wire in the fan?

White is for neutral on the fan, black is power for the motor, and red is power for the light. If the power from the switch only has two wires (black and white), you would hook up white to white and hook black and red from the fan to the black wire from the wall switch. This means that you'll be powering the fan and light on the same switch and to change the fan and light separately you will have to pull on the chains or use a remote control.

How do I wire a Kitchen outlet?

Black wire to gold screw, white wire to silver screw, ground to green screw. If you are using a GFIC outlet then the hot wires coming in hook to the Line side of the GFIC receptacle and the wires going out to other receptacles hook to the load side.

How do you hook-up power for Kenmore dishwasher 13163?

S/B small Metal cover on front bottom right side. Simply open cover, be it snap off or small screw. Then use existing HARDWIRE (romex) and twis the black existing to the black on diswasher, the white twist to the white, and the green should have a green screw in the same area you opened at bottom right to secure. The green would be the ground for safety.
