Rene Descartes was influenced by Aristotelianism, Stoicism as well as Saint Augustine of Hippo (also known as Saint Austin). Descartes was also heavily influenced by a vision he experienced on the night of November 10 to 11, 1619.

By mistakenly assuming that his intellectual pronoun "I" possessed a reality that was not delusional, he mistakenly assumed that his thinking was not delusional, and in doing this, those who chose to deny Reality in favor of intellectualism quickly proclaimed his "I think, therefore I am" as having validity tipped the teeter totter of rationality in favor of Delusional Thinking, and intellectualism was adopted over Spirituality.

This coincided with the nature and perhaps "needs" of the Iron Age, and this mistaken notion of Descartes is still prevalent today. The natural consequence of this focusing on the intellect as consisting of a fundamental nature naturally places the MIND of Man in a dominant role and reduces the search for Spirituality and Truth to those whose level of Spiritual Evolution does not allow them to be fooled.

(1) Descartes developed important concepts in mathematics (e.g. Cartesian coordinate systems). (2) Descartes also developed important philosophical arguements (Direct vs. indirect knowledge in epistemology, Dream argument against physical reality, evil demon argument against existence, etc. Although not the first to present this argument, he is widely credited with "I think, therefore I am" Ecogito, ergo sum. )
