Some kids had a tutor others helped their parents with farming and cooking. It was very hot in the South sodiseases were passed around more easily. Agriculture was very important to the South. They had crops such as tobacco and rice and were often called "the plantation colonies". The death expectancy was 10 years shorter than other colonies.

It wasn't very social because the slaves worked on many plantations and were put in groups. People who speaked different languages were put together so they couldn't communicate. They talked about escape during the night. they secretly learned to read and write. They weren't originally allowed to do that. They also couldn't own property, learn to read and write, get married, and more.
