The first settlements in New Jersey were people from The Dutch West Indies Company. A little later on people came from Sweden to settle in what is now New Jersey. French people also came and then the Quakers.

The Swedish Fort Nya Elfsborg near present day Salem, New Jersey. The Dutch established numerous trading post including Communipaw in present day Jersey City.
