In general, it is much the same as it is today except maybe a bit cooler. But it was warm enough to grow crops, with good soil and all four seasons.

Since modern cities and paved highways had yet to be developed, most of New Jersey was rolling hills (foothills of the Appalachian Mountains), swampland (mostly in the southern part of the state), and fertile farmland.

Of course, port cities such as Newark were among the first to be developed; sea trade with England and with the other colonies was essential for New Jersey's early survival.
