By the time you have read this I bet you have delivered your baby, you probably had it within 2 hours of writing the question. --------------- I am 40 weeks, 5 cm dilated and 75% effaced - have been since last Friday (it's now Monday). I say that your baby will come when he/she is good and ready, and not a moment earlier. I know it can be frustrating, but your child knows when he is supposed to great the world. If your doctor thinks that anything is wrong, they will likely induce you between 41-42 weeks. I recomend you try to just have your water broken first, and if that doesn't get things moving go on to pitocin or some such Intravenous (IV) inducer. Good luck my dear!
I'm sure you hate hearing people say this, but there is no way to determine how far off labour is by these statistics. As you may well know, dilation refers to the cervical opening, effacement to thinning, and station to the presentation of the baby to the pelvis or nearing the cervix (from -5 to +5, while some physicians use -3 to +3 scale). The cervix has to be 100% thin or effaced, 10 cm dilated and the baby's head engaged before delivery can occur. You are half way through the effacement stage, not very dilated at all and your station indicates that your little one is still floating around ABOVE the pelvis, thus not yet engaged. Not to disappoint you, but labour could be weeks away for you. I am 38 weeks, have been 90% effaced and 3 cm dilated with baby engaged to +1 station for two weeks now- and no baby yet!!! Furthermore, my doctor is talking about inducing in another week if labour does not progress more. Hang in there. You still have some time left!
When it comes to things like that it's just guesses. We all wish someone could tell how long it takes but that is impossible. It can stop and start again later or they have to help you to get it started again. Many things can happen.
== == Theoretically, as long as you are past the point where the fetus is viable, active labor can begin any time in any pregnancy, no matter how much you are dilated or effaced. This means you could go into active labor in four minutes, four days, four weeks, etc. There's really no way to tell.
you will know....you get the urge that you need to push.
No - not at all. You will begin to dilate around 36 weeks and you can go 6 weeks without dilating any further. Most women are 1-2 cm dilated for the last weeks of their pregnancy. I really don't know why the doctors tell you this - it just means you worry. If you get to 4cm dilated it probably means you will go into labour soon.
Almost from the moment they are born.
Almost instantly.

Begin's influence in Israel has dwindled drastically in recent years, and is now almost nil, mainly because he died in 1992.
Almost all animals begin as an egg and a sperm. There are a few exceptions, though, such as sea sponges. But for the majority, they begin as sperm and egg.
You are already in the first stages of labor. It could become hard labor in a matter of minutes or days. Keep a close eye on things and get to the clinic or hospital (or call your doctor or midwife if you are having a home birth) as soon as thigns begin to change.
ExcitedEntertainedExuberantEngagedThere are almost certainly others, but I don't know of any more.
