Best Answer

Yes!! That is correct.

a number is a positive number unless the number sentence says otherwise. So if you are adding 3 to its opposite you would be adding (+3) + (-3) and the answer would be 0.

If this is hard to understand think of it this way: positive numbers are what you have, negative are what you owe. So You would have 3 and owe 3 for a net of 0.

Is the absolute value of a number always zero?

No. It's always the number without a sign.

How do Absolute value of a number and it's opposite compare?

The absolute value of a number is always positive or zero, while its opposite is always negative or zero. The relationship between the absolute value of a number and its opposite is that they have the same numerical value but opposite signs. For example, the absolute value of -5 is 5, and the opposite of 5 is -5.

Will the opposite of zero always or never be zero?

The opposite of zero - in the sense of additive inverse - is zero.

Will the opposite of a positive number always sometimes or never be positive number?

Opposite of positive number will always be a negative number. The total of the two has to be zero as per the definition. So the zero does not have the opposite number.

Is the product of a non-zero number and its opposite zero?

The opposite (or inverse) of a number can be defined in a number of different ways. For example, the additive opposite of 4 is -4 but the multiplicative opposite of 4 is 1/4 or 0.25 Since the question concerns the product it would seem more appropriate to use the multiplicative opposite. Then, the product of a number and its opposite will be always 1. Incidentally, the product of a number and its additive opposite will be the negative square of the number. In neither case will it be zero.

What is the product of 1.3 and 0?

Does the number zero have an opposite number?

Zero does not have an opposite * * * * * While it is true that zero has no multiplicative opposite (or inverse), it certainly has an additive inverse, and that is also zero, since 0 + 0 = 0

Is the sum of a number and its opposite ever zero?

Yes, by definition, always. e.g 4 + -4 = 0
