Shore to shore, the Bribie Island Bridge is 840m. For comparison purposes, the Ted Smout Bridge between Redcliffe and Shorecliffe which has a similar flat construction is 2.7km. However while the shore to shore distance for the 67m high Gateway bridge on the Brisbane River is only 470m, yet 17km of approach road had to be rebuilt when it was duplicated in 2009. The question is always how much of the approaches should be considered part of the bridge? The approaches on the Bribie and the Smout were relatively short and cheap.

Vesna Vulović (Serbian: Весна Вуловић) (born 3 January 1950) holds the Guinness Book of Records world record for surviving the highest fall without a parachute: 10,160 meters (33,316 feet). The fall occurred on January 26, 1972, over Srbská Kamenice in Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic), after JAT Yugoslav Flight 364, on which Vulović was a flight attendant, exploded. The cause of the explosion has never been established, but was attributed by the Yugoslav and Czechoslovakian authorities to a bomb placed on the plane by a Croatian Terrorist group, known as the Ustaša. The explosion tore the DC-9-32 to pieces in mid-air, and she was the only survivor. Vulović says that she was found in the middle section of the plane.
