Archimedes did many things, such as: developed ideas that proved essential to the formation of calculus, found a very accurate value for pi, solved the problem of buoyancy, established the law of the lever, defined the spiral, used the method of exhaustion to calculate the area of the arc of a parabola, found an ingenious system for expressing large numbers, came up with the fulcrum, and devised a method of displacement volumes.

Archimedes got the reputation of saying outlandish things. However, after he staged a performance for the king and his court where he pulled a trireme up onto the beach all by himself using a system of pulleys, a law was then passed that anything Archimedes said was to be considered true.

When the Romans were conquering Sicily they put together a special troop who's task was to capture Archimedes alive. Alas he was killed by a soldier from another troop who didn't know who the old man was. Archimedes' last words were 'Don't disturb my circles.'

The story of Archimedes was that he jumped into his bathtub and when the water overflowed he realized that he had replaced the water

He ran round shouting "EUREKA" ("I have found it"!!!)

Found what??

Found the answer to discovering if someone had replaced some of his golden crown with another cheaper metal.

The crown had been made of a cetain measure of gold: If the overall amount of water displaced was now different to that measure of gold, one would know that some of the gold had been replaced by some other substance.
