There is a very mathematical reason, actually: They had high hopes of arriving at a system that would be better than the British monarchy and thought that 3, being a Prime number, would also be a lucky number for preventing abuse of power. Many would argue that this did not turn out to be so lucky, after all, as the abuse still goes on.

Three was the number recommended in the very influential Federalist Papers. Be grateful that they did not choose 17, which also is a prime number and considered very, very lucky! (Obviously, they wouldn't have chosen 13.) Seventeen equal branches would have prevented the government from doing anything at all, which would certainly stop the abuse, but which would have disadvantages of its own. It is certainly hard enough to make government work, with three branches. (You should look up the word 'gridlock'.)

Now, Britain already had a parliamentary system, which still works very nicely, most of the time; but the Founding Fathers, trying to fill the void produced by dismissing Westminster with such haste, were anxious to try something new and different.

Should the legislative and judicial and executive branches exercise predominant power one another?

(in the US) Under the US form of government the three branches are "equal" in their inter-action with one another, which is what the founding fathers intended when they wrote the Constitution. Anything else would not be a 'representative' form of government.

What was the founding fathers?

The founding fathers were religious men, but that was not their philosophy. Being men of education during their time, they were well read and took their philosophy from the idea of Natural Law. They believed, as stated in the Declaration of Independence, that all men were created equal and that their Creator (who they called God) had given all men certain rights which could not justly be taken away. This manifested itself in their view of the use of government being to serve the people and the view that government must not interfere with the rights God had given.

Equality and liberty were the main ideas included in the Declaration of Independence. The Founding Fathers believed that people are created equal and have a right to freedom without oppression.

Is it necessary to eliminate differences?

The question you asked highlights what I believe is a problem in society. The founding fathers (again, this is my opinion) built this country on a foundation of equal opportunity. That is, the government will not prevent anyone from pursuing life, liberty, and happiness. We, in our modern day, have mistaken what the Founding Fathers wrote for meaning that everyone is entitled to life, liberty, and happiness. Equal opportunity is taken to mean equality. That is, everyone's opportunity must be the same. There must be no person with more opportunity than another person, because then we wouldn't be equal. The only way the government can guaranty that we are equal is by making us all the same. Therefore I think that many people get the mistaken impression that that this sameness is a virtue. It is not. Everyone is unique with unique talents, gifts, backgrounds, and knowledge. To treat everyone the same does them a disservice and, in fact, hobbles us as a society. We need to make sure that everyone can take full advantage of their talents, gifts, and places in society. Only then can we be truly equal.

Why did the Founding Fathers believe in an independent judiciary?

A basic strategy of the US constitution is the creation of 3 independent branches of government, which are the executive, the legislative, and the judicial. Each branch has some power to correct abuses committed by the other two branches, therefore it is hoped that this system will protect the public from government corruption.

Why did the founding fathers refused to aprove the right to vote to women?
