There is no distributive property of addition over multiplication.

The equation works if

a + (b * c) = (a + b)*(a + c) = a2 + ab +ac +bc

=> a + bc = a2 + ab +ac +bc

ie a = a2 + ab + ac = a*(a+b+c)

and that, in turn requires that a = 0 or a+b+c = 1

If a, b and c are fractions than the second condition requires the fractions to sum to 1 - not be equal to 1.

What is the distributive property for addition?

Addition, by itself, does not have a distributive property. Multiplication has a distributive property over addition, according to which: a*(b + c) = a*b + a*c

What is the distributive property for multiplication?

The distributive property of multiplication over addition states that a*(b + c) = a*b + a*c

What is the distributive property of 44 x 60?

The distributive property involves both a multiplication and an addition.

What is the distributive property of -4x plus 15?

There is no "distributive property" involved in this case. A distributive property always involves two operations, usually multiplication and addition. What properties do the distributive property work for?

addition and subtraction * * * * * No. The distributive property applies to two operations, for example, to multiplication over addition or subtraction.

What is the distributive property in addition?

The distributive property OF MULTIPLICATION over addition is a*(b + c) = a*b + a*c for any numbers a, b and c.

Can you do distributive property on the number 20?

No. The distributive property applies to two operations (usually multiplication and addition), NOT to numbers.

What is the distributive property of 89?

Numbers do not have a distributive property. The distributive property is an attribute of one arithmetical operation over another. The main example is the distributive property of multiplication over addition.

What is 516 in distributive property?

The distributive property is applicable to two binary operators (such as addition and multiplication). There are no operators in the question and so the distributive property has no relevance to the question.

What is a distributive property of multiplication?

The distributive property of multiplication OVER addition (or subtraction) states that a*(b + c) = a*b + a*c Thus, multiplication can be "distributed" over the numbers that are inside the brackets.

What property involves multiplying a sum by a number?

The distributive property of multiplication over addition.
