Because the measurement were alot harder to remember.

The Metric System, the measurements are easier to remember

The metric system was invented in France during the revolution because a new France required new measurement units. (also because back then every city defined the units different, causing major confusion in trade) To make the new system easy to learn and remember, it was based on increments of ten instead of the imperial system wich uses multiple different ones. (interesting fact: The system used to include a 20 hour day, 100 minute hour, and 100 second min.
