A perfect square is the result of a number being multiplied by itself. For instance, 9 is a square number as it is the result of 3x3. If a number is a square, its factors can all be paired up. In the case of 24, its prime factors are 2, 2, 2 and 3. While two of the 2s can pair up, there is another 2 and a 3 left over. Thus, we can say for certain that 24 is not a square.
