Think of x as a number

lets say that x is 5

so 8+5=13

5+8=13

however

5-8= -3 because i am taking away -8 from 5

8-5= 3 because i am taking away 5 from 8

in subtraction you need to be aware of the minus sign and what number to in front of it.
