why is a scale important
It shows the distance a certain measurement equals on a map.
a scale model ~aka~(Scale drawing) in math terms is - The process of drawing a figure either enlarged or reduced in size from its original size. Usually the scale is given, as on a map 1 inch equals 10 miles.----http://dpi.wi.gov/standards/mathglos.html
The answer depends on the scale of the map.The answer depends on the scale of the map.The answer depends on the scale of the map.The answer depends on the scale of the map.
The scale on a map is how far it takes you to get there for example in my class we are learning all about KFC and we have to get a map on it the scale on the map would be that it takes you 500 kilometers to get there by foot, car. bus or train.
A large scale map shows you the distanct between things on a map and on the real eaths surface.
The terms "small scale" and "large scale" are relative terms. Compared to a street map (typically 1:30000 or less) it is a large scale. Compared to a world map (1:10,000,000 or higher), it would be smaller. But because a 1:175000 does not show much detail (1 cm = 1.75 km), it would usually be considered a large scale map. It could be used for a metropolitan area highway map.

small scale
So you know what distance equals a mile which varies map to map.
you can use to locate places by using it .
The main point is that very little detail can be shown on a small scale map due to lack of space. Small scale maps show a large area, motorways, main roads, etc. A large scale map is used when showing details is important. A large scale map will show churches, country lanes, footpaths, etc, over a very small area.
Depending on what the map is of scale is very important. On a road map of a region you might read 1 inch equals 1 mile, this is so that the map can fit on the paper or computer monitor, actual size is not an option. On a Map of the world the scale might be 1 inch to 1000 miles. Or if if something is drawn to scale it means, that you have one part of the map in feet and the other side in meters.
The SCALE of the map indicates the relationship between distances measured on a map and the actual distances.

The map needs a scale so that distances on the map can be worked out.
