Math is the language of the inanimate. Math is important to science because through math science translates what things are telling us in their actions.

For example; math can measure the pressure that the weight of water will have against a cement block and with that knowledge a dam can be built that is safe. Without the knowledge math gives us we are at the mercy of chance and can only obtain information through trial and error.

As Galileo put it: "The universe cannot be read until we have learnt the language and become familiar with the characters in which it is written. It is written in mathematical language, and the letters are triangles, circles and other geometrical figures, without which means it is humanly impossible to comprehend a single word."

Mathematics is the foundation upon which all the sciences depend for their explanations of the phenomena that surround us.
