Star topology is considered as best due to the following reasons

1.There is a central hub in which each individual system is connected.Suppose if one system fails it does not affect other system. This is the major advantage of star topology.

2.Secondly,it requires minimum cabling for the network

Star topology is commonly used in office and at homes. Since, the troubleshooting of network issue is quiet easy. The network is totally depend upon the hub or switch which is used in the network. The main drawback is as the no of cables and switch increase, there results the drop/ slow down of network.

This is not necessarily true. Star topology is often the most affordable while still allowing some robustness, but in mission critical scenarios, often a mesh topology will make more sense. The different topologies exist not only because of evolution over time, but because different scenarios call for different configurations.

STAR Topologies: The distinguishing feature of star topology is that all nodes are joined at a single point. This single point is called the central node, hub,or switch, to which all other device are attached directly, generally via UTP or STP. This topology is frequently used for networks in which control of the network is located in the central node.

Which topology is the most commonly used server network topology?

The most common LAN topology is that of a "star." In a star topology, each computer, or "node", is connected to a central hub. This is more reliable than a more classical "ring" topology, because a node failing will not bring down the entire network. A bus topology is arguably more reliable, but has poorer performance.
