A solar eclipse is when the moon comes exactly between the sun and the earth while on its orbit around earth. From earth this is when we see the sun blocked out by the moon. It does not happen very often as the alignments have to be exactly right. a lunar eclipse is when the earth comes between the sun and the moon. Here, the shadow of the earth is cast onto the moon, the moon is seen to go red due to the light from the sun being distorted.

Lunar eclipse . . .

occurs when the moon moves across the Earth's shadow. For a few hours, the moon is not illuminated by the sun, so it appears to turn dark in the sky. The Earth is located between the moon and the Sun.

Solar eclipse . . .

occurs when the Earth moves across the Moon's shadow. For a few hours, the moon's tiny shadow speeds across the Earth's surface. Anyone in the path of the moon's shadow sees the sun disappear from the sky for a few minutes. The moon is located between the Earth and the Sun.

As for why, it just does. It's a natural occurrence.

Eclipses happen when the moon goes exactly in front of the sun. There are 2 kinds of eclipses: # Solar Eclipse # Total Eclipse There are 3 rules in an eclipse: # Find a way to warm up # # Look at the sun.

  • An eclipse does happen about once every two years which is quite often
  • The reason that it does not happen more often is because the moon has to cross with the sun and block the light for about 1 minute, not always though sometimes just a few seconds.

Eclipses are named eclipses because the vocabulary word "eclipse" means to take attention away from something else. When the moon (or Earth's shadow) crosses in front of the sun (or the moon), it is taking attention away from the sun or moon. You can't see it anymore.

Well, since the Moon circulates the Earth, and the Earth the Sun. So, if the Moon's position is between the Sun and Earth, you get a Solar Eclipse. A Lunar Eclipse is almost the same. Instead, the Earth is between the Sun and the Moon, so the Earth's shadow (yes there are shadows in Outer Space!) falls on the Moon, making it look reddish brown.

HOW IS A LUNAR ECLIPSE FORMED?A lunar eclipse is formed when the Earth (our homeland)comes in between the Sun and the Moon. The Earth blocks the light from the Sun which was supposedly had to reach the moon. Then a region (on earth)will observe the moon that has not much of light.

A lunar calendar is based on lunar months (the cycle of the moon's phases takes 28 days). Since this cycle is fairly constant, the months all have the same length. The problem arises because no whole number of lunar months corresponds to one year; the closest is 13 months, equal to 364 days. This leaves an overhang of one and a quarter days each year which must be accounted for in a similar manner to leap years.

you have a solar eclipse when it is a new moon and the sun, moon, and earth are all perfectly aligned, which is not very common. on earth, it will seem as if the moon blocks out the sun, and in some parts of the world it will become as dark as night during the day for a couple of hours. a lunar eclipse is when the moon falls into the earth's shadow, and becomes a reddish sort of color. eclipses do not happen every full and new moon because the moon is on a five degree tilt, so it needs to be in a certain spot for an eclipse to happen.

The moon is never "blocked out". It's not even clear what that might look like, or what it means. -- During a solar eclipse, the moon gets in the way, so that you can't see the sun for a few minutes. -- During a lunar eclipse, the Earth gets in the way, so that the sun can't shine on the moon and light it up for a few hours.

Well, an eclipse is when the moon's shadow hits Earth or Earth's shadow hits the moon, and that's when an eclipse happens. So that's basically what happens to cause the eclipses of the moon.

How does the moon cause both types of eclipses?

An eclipse happens when the Sun, the Moon and the Earth line up almost exactly. When the shadow of the Moon falls on the Earth, this is a solar eclipse. When the shadow of the Earth falls on the Moon, this is a lunar eclipse. On average, there are two solar eclipses and two lunar eclipses each year. About half of these are partial eclipses, in which the Sun, Moon and Earth don't QUITE line up exactly.
