In ordinary mathematics complex number notation uses the letter i for the square root of -1 to identify the imaginary part of the number.

But in electronics the letter i was already in use for the AC current in the circuit, so the letter j was used for the square root of -1 instead of the letter i to prevent confusion. So in electronics complex number notation uses the letter j.

For capacitance measurement using a bridge is it more appropriate to use DC or AC Any diff in values?

It is better to use AC. Impedance of the capacitor depends upon the frequency of the input signal. If we apply DC input signal than f = 0, that means Z approaches to infinity. If you apply the DC input signal then the current shall flow only for the time the capacitor is not charged. As the capacitor is charged current flow stops. At this point it is almost impossible to measure the voltage across capacitors because as you apply voltmeter across the capacitors, capacitors start to discharge through voltmeter (at this stage input impedance of the voltmeter is less as compared to that of capacitor). So if you use AC then this situation does not occur, moreover you can control the impedance of the capacitor by varying the frequency of the input signal. What is mov capacitor?

A capacitor used to protect the transformer if these any problem in the cct.

What does electrolytic capacitor do?

The same thing as any other capacitor does (i.e. oppose changes in the voltage across it) except:it has much greater capacitance per volume than other capacitorshas higher leakage current than other capacitorsis polarized when all other capacitors are unpolarized

How a trimmer capacitor use?

A trimmer capacitor is a semi-adjustable capacitor placed across a variable tuning capacitor and pre-set to allow the main capacitor to track correctly with another variable capacitor on the same shaft. The adjustment takes out any differences introduced by the connected circuit.

Can a capacitor charge to its maximum by applying any voltage to it?

A capacitor can charge to its' maximum OR the voltage applied to it, whichever is LESS.

What does a disc capacitor do?

A disc capacitor does exactly the same thing that any other capacitor does, with one difference: it has the lowest value of parasitic inductance of any type of capacitor. As inductance is exactly the opposite property to capacitance, its presence in a capacitor is very undesirable in many applications and can sometimes result in circuit instability.

Any letter other than vowels in the alphabet?

Actually, there are more consonants that there are vowels in the alphabet.

How do you increase the value of a capacitor?

A: Any additional capacitor added in parallel will effectively increase to total capacitance by that value. Note that additional capacitor added must have the same voltage rating as the other

Why input impedance of any amplifier should very high?

To get all the audio voltage from a source to a target without loss you need voltage bridging, that is a relative low output impedance to a higher input impedance. Usualy the input impedance is at least ten times higher then the output impedance. An input impedance is called also a load impedance or an external impedance. An output impedance is called also a source impedance or an internal impedance.
